I am from New York City but residing in Buffalo these days. I remember Richard Todd's last game as a New York Jet, before they traded him to save the New Orleans Saints. Ironically, I was at this game in Miami's Orange Bowl in week 16, 1983. The game was NOT locally televised, but all the Jets fans at home were fortunate enough to watch.
It was a special Friday night addition of Monday Night football in 1983. The Jets had just played their last game at Shea Stadium the week before (losing 31-7 vs. the Steelers). They went into Miami elimianted from playoff contention. Miami was playing for homefield advantage.
The game was on the line late in the 4th quarter. Richard Todd went back to pass and got picked off by a nobody (Fins dime safety Jim Koslowski) and sent it back for a TD. On the very next drive, Todd went back to pass and was picked off for another Dolphin TD by (you guessed it) Koslowski! On the VERY next drive. Todd was sacked on a 4th and long. Todd thought Dolphins DE Doug Betters' tackle was excessive. Out of frustration Todd lost all composure, scolded Betters as he was jogging off the field and proceeded to chuck the ball at Betters will all of the might he could muster from 5 feet away...missing Betters completely. Todd not only didn't get the satisfaction of a cheap shot. It never landed and NY was assessed a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct foul, which Miami cashed in on soon after.
If there EVER was a time to turn away from my problem, it was then. But 14 years later, I still feel Kotite is going to take'em to the Promised Land. Sure he's 3-26 in his last 29, but Kotite kinda reminds me of the Li'l train that could! He's an ex-assistant to Joe Walton!
And look at all the fine role models outta the Jets organization: Mark Gastineau, Nuu (I beat up Ms.Universe)Faaola and WR Lame Jones (who proved that you don't need hands or desire to be a #1 pick in the NFL)
HELP ME! PLEASE! I think I see a 13-3 record going our way. O'Donnell SB
MVP! dare I say it?...President of Our United States, Rich Kotite.
Hello, my name is Jack and I'm a Jets Fan...
I'm thirty years old, and have followed the Jets for about 20 years now.
Up until the age of 10, I was a Dallas Cowboy fan, but my older brother
converted me over to the Jets...bastard.
The pain and suffering is often hard to take. During the football season I feel like a failure. Monday mornings are pure hell because the Jets have lost the day before.
I actully start hoping for the Jets to lose after awhile figuring they can get a better draft pick the next year, but I have even given up on that. The only way the Jets will be winners is if Leon Hess dies and the Jets get their own stadium.
Thank you for listening and giving me the opportunity to speak...
ahhhh I feel better now.
We have to win a game, I'm not used to this. I'm frustrated,
really frustrated. I never thought we would start this way.
I thought we really had a chance to win this football game.
My name is Mike G. and I'm (sadly) a Jetaholic. It all started back in the 1983 AFC Championship game against the Miami Dolphins. Even though A.J. Duhe shattered my hopes for the Jets shot at a Super Bowl, the seeds of hope were planted. I should have learned to see the sickness then.
The sickness rapidly progressed, with season after season of hope, then despair. I began to look for other teams (like the Seahawks, Saints and other assorted mediocrities), but to no avail. I finally realized I was sick, when after moving to Dallas, I began to look for a sports bar that carried Jet games in the heart of Cowboy country.
I hope my sorry story could serve as a deterrent to others who may seek the
path of retched play, remorse and ruin that Jetaholism brings. STOP THE
INSANITY!!
Hi, my name is Joe. I live in San Antonio, Texas. I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. I have never ever lived even close to New York in my life. But, I am a New York Jets Fan! I've been following them since I can remember. I don't know why I follow the Jets. I think it was my destiny-they were the first team to win the Super Bowl after I was born (my brother follows the first team that won the Super Bowl after he was born-the Packers).
I drive around San Antonio with my NY Jets license plate holder amongst all the Cowboy fans down here-I must be bringing a smile to their faces after they see me, a Jets fan.
At my wedding last year, my vest for my tux had the NY Jets logo all over it. I was so proud of my vest. Most of the wedding guests were Cowboy fans (Boooo!!!!, the Cowboys win all the time, why root for them?) I thought for sure my luck would change after having the Jets with me at the most important day of my life. What was I thinking?
I have worn my Jets cap proudly since the spring. Now, after 2 weeks, I think twice before going outside with it on. To top it off I will be attending a wedding on Long Island the first weekend in October. Of course, I was hoping to get tickets to the Jets-Raiders game that Sunday. I actually want to pay to see this team!!!
I have attended only one Jets game. They lost to the hapless Colts 6-3 in Indy back when my hopes rested on Browning Nagle. I am sure my first Jets home game will TURN the team around!!! Actually, I think I'll find a Jets home game interesting. Other Jets fans will be in attendance (right?) I honestly can't say I know another Jets fan. Down in TX, I feel isolated...alone....
However, I have come across one hurdle. My wife's friend that lives in the
NYC area says the Jets-Raiders game is SOLD OUT (why?). So, my chance to turn
this team around may have to wait. So, I ask you, how can I get my hands on
some tickets for that game?
I can be reached at the following address:jdylla@swri.edu,
Any help is appreciated!!!
Thanks,Joe Dylla
It all started back in '81 when I relocated to NJ from Philly. The Jets
were the closest I could get to Philly Green every Sunday. I got really
hooked in '84 when Klecko,Gastineau and O'Brien (yes! O'Brien!) had the
highest ranking stats and only 2 losses going into the home stretch.
Now, I have hit rock bottom. Today I stooped so low as to introduce my
6 month old son to the Jets. Yes, it's TRUE!!! And I even told him
that they could be in the Super Bowl someday in his lifetime. I know, I
know... I am so ashamed.
Well, that must be how it happens... generation after generation. In
the middle of today's Bronco fiasco, my mother-in-law compared me to the
Brooklyn Dodger fan. She meant it as a compliement about loyalty... But
I knew better. I'm a Jetaholic.
Hi, my name is Rich and I am a Jetaholic...
My problem stems from my childhood in the late sixties. My dad and 40
of his friends had season tickets for the NY Jets at Shea stadium. I
grew up beleiving in the Green and White. They won the Superbowl when I
was nine.
I recently (1992) purchased season tickets of my own. We now a group of
about 30 of us who tailgate at 16B. I do however, know enough NOT to
ever bet on the Jets. My dad instilled that in me at an early age. I
made a few dollars on the Denver game. I had a preminition of 38 - 10
loss. 31 - 6 did not surprise me.
